H. B. Wallace Reserve, Green Mountain Falls
After so much rain this month, it was good to get out with the Pikes Peak Over the Hill Gang for a morning hike.
We started out down here and headed to the rocks way up there. Of course, we had to take Fat Man's Squeeze up and squeeze between the rocks.
Lots of short switchbacks going straight up. We made it to the top of Castle Rock.
The toes got sore going down. I guess I should tie my shoes better. It was fun to catch up with everyone. Only found one tick. Isn't it early in the season?

Please give me more information on this hike. Where is the trailhead? How long is the hike? I looked up "hiking Castle Rock" and it said it was 1.5 miles. We are looking for some more challenging hikes outside Denver without going into RMNP. We can find the distance but the trails are so flat. We enjoy some scrambling and rockier trails. This looks like a fun hike:) Love the rocks!!
ReplyDeleteDenver is pretty flat. There is the Colorado Trail near Waterton Canyon by Chatfield. Mount Evans is not real far from Golden. This hike is on the side of Pikes Peak west of Colorado Springs. Lots of good hiking in Cheyenne Canyon and west of the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. Castle Rock was 1000 foot elevation in 1.5 but opportunities for more miles. I think I am getting wordy here.
DeleteThanks! Mount Evans is open to Echo Lake but was closed further, at least as of the weekend. I did find a hike from Echo Lake that looked pretty good. I am hoping Mount Evans opens before we leave on the 17th.
DeleteIn the future, check out Mueller State Park in Divide and the Pancake Rock hike and the Craggs if you like the rocks and nice hikes. Hope the hike is a good one.
DeleteNext visit to Colorado we'll have to spent time in the Colorado Springs area.
DeleteWe're currently at Chatfield SP and hiking around the area. I think I'll get diligent looking for ticks but does seem early. Always nice to return to the Front Range.
ReplyDeleteSo glad the weather got better for you. We are headed to Buena Vista for the bike fest before going to Denver. Hope I can make it to Leadville on my new bike.
